Eric Lumsden, director-general of the Department
of Planning and Infrastructure (DPI), refused this
week to answer questions about the 25,500 names and
addresses of vehicle owners given to Wilson
Parking.
He issued this statement: "I have instigated an
internal investigation, which is currently under
way.
"The results of the investigation will then be
presented to Minister Alannah MacTiernan, Minister
Ljiljanna Ravlich and the Crime and Corruption
Commission.
"Since this matter came to my attention last
week, I have been working on improving processes to
properly protect personal information and have
directed no further personal details to be issued
unless they are in strict accordance with the law.
"Until the investigation has been completed I do
not propose further comment on this matter, other
than to apologise again to members of the community
for any distress this matter may have caused."
The POST questions are:
1. Any progress in the DPI investigation into
providing information to Wilson Parking?
2. Has Wilson paid the $70,000 invoice?
3. Is it correct that Wilson sent a courier with
a cheque who was turned away?
4. This would indicate that Wilson has the names
and addresses at no cost – is this
correct?
5. Do public servants starting work at the DPI
have to sign anything like an oath of
confidentiality?
6. Is there an induction course for new
staff?
7. Does it cover the issue of confidential
information they might see/learn during their
duty?
8. Who is doing the investigation – Mr
Lumsden or a panel of people?
9. What are the terms of reference?
10. Will they investigate whether the DPI has
provided information to any other private
firms/organisations?
11.Will the findings be made public?
