Men in suits hold the answer

Water guru Geoff Trigg

The things you get to read about in the POST!

George Williams' poke at the pollies and bureaucrats in suits on the beach ("Why the formal beach wear?" POST, 3/5) was not just good for a laugh but also informative.

The article advised that as recently as 10 years ago Geoff Trigg, as the then engineer for Subiaco, was redirecting stormwater into the river or ocean.

But now, as the engineer for Cottesloe, he was leading the state and the nation with his water-saving ideas, which includes putting water back into the aquifer.

Sounds like a fantastic idea, as well as the reversal of a dumb one.

With his past and present knowledge, maybe he could advise Subiaco on what it needs to do to put stormwater back into Lake Jualbup.

Maybe the drying out of the lake over the past 10 years has had more to do with engineering than climate change.

Maybe Subiaco CEO Chester Burton, as the chairman of the WESROC group of councils' total water cycle committee, could also help by chasing up some of the federal and state funds that seem to be available for this initiative.

There might even be a touch of deja vu for Mr Burton who would have become CEO around the time that Mr Trigg was busy redirecting such a vital resource out to sea.
