A marvellous menagerie of pets vied for a swag of
awards at the Claremont Lifestyle Fair on
Sunday.
Dogs, cats, ferrets, lizards, rabbits,
budgerigars - even a huge beetle -
basked in the balmy autumn sunshine as they awaited
the judges' verdict in the fair's inaugural pet
show.
The show - sponsored by the POST and
Grantham Street Veterinary Clinic - was a
huge success, and helped Claremont-Cottesloe Rotary
Club raise more than $20,000 for cancer research
and other Rotary projects.
The judges - ABC presenter Sinead Mangan
and local vet Dr Cameron Murray - awarded
the $100 Best In Show prize to Rani, the gorgeous
golden retriever belonging to Ishabel Laing (see
letters, page 2).
Runner-up was Wolfgang Amadeus, a smart little
schnauzer, owned by Alexandra Smith.

The Best-Dressed Awards went to George, a most
realistic wolf/grandmother, with his owners Jessica
and Madeline Lee, who were dressed as characters
from Little Red Riding Hood; and Lucy, an
Easter-themed golden retriever belonging to Amy
Joyce.
The Waggiest Tail Awards went to corgie-cross
Missy and owner Hamish Duddy, and Rebus the
labrador and owner Cameron Silvia.
There were no surprises when Betty the rabbit
won the Biggest Ears Award for her owner Lucas
Richardson.
Bodleigh the ferret snatched the Cutest Exotic
Pet award from his three siblings Sispip, Bubbles
and Squeak, leaving owner Dylan Bailey wreathed in
smiles.
Rhino the rhinoceros beetle was as proud as
punch when he snapped up the Ugliest Pet Award for
his owner Riley Johnston.
And Scarlet the cavalier dog felt much the same
when he won the Pet Owner Lookalike Award for
Nicholas Flanders.
Organisers said the fair, which was attended by
7000 people, was the best in 47 years.
