Subiaco police have impounded their first car
under new "hoon laws".
The car was impounded on Tuesday morning because
of noise made when its driver spun its wheels in
Carrington Street, Nedlands, during a high-speed
chase.
Police said they had chased the 1989 Holden
Commodore, which they estimated had been travelling
at 100kmh through Nedlands side streets, at 7.30am
on Tuesday, December 22.
Police said the 23-year-old driver had spun his
wheels on Carrington Street and officers had put on
their siren and followed him at high speed through
Broome, Bedford and Weld streets and back up a side
street to Carrington Street.
Police said the man had driven recklessly and
the wrong way round the Weld Street roundabout.
They said the chase ended when he pulled into
his drive on Carrington Street.
The car was impounded for the noise created from
spinning the wheels under the new hoon laws but it
was the driver's first offence and the car was
returned after 48 hours.
The police intend to charge the man for failing
to stop, reckless driving and driving without a
licence.
They are urging witnesses to contact Subiaco
police on 9381 6811.
