Rod Bradley ("Should stadium be listed?" 9/8) missed the point and deflected attention away from the principal issue - the ridiculous suggestion to list an entire precinct consisting in part of lightly built, temporary houses, some riddled with asbestos, renovated homes and new homes, as an area of Australian heritage significance.

We collected over one thousand signatures opposing the Heritage Council of WA's moves in less than a week. People's reactions ranged from laughter that a government body could seriously come up with such an idea to outright anger at the damage it would undoubtedly do to so many vulnerable people.

The reactions came from pensioners and retired people whose only assets are their homes, to young families with children at school and often substantial mortgages. Opposition to the Heritage Council of WA's plan to list our homes ran at 98%-plus.

We are very grateful that the mayor, deputy mayor and all councillors have expressed their opposition with us towards the proposed heritage listing.
