Mosman mystery spans 34 years

Victorian police want information about this woman, who was last seen in Mosman Park in 1969 and known as Jean Climas (or Shaw or Batten).

Police based in Bendigo, Victoria, are trying to locate a woman who vanished in Mosman Park 34 years ago soon after moving to WA.

She was known as Jean Climas, or Shaw or possibly Batten, and was 20 in 1969.

Det. Brendon Murphy, of Bendigo CIB, called the POST last week and said the woman's family recently asked for her disappearance to be reinvestigated.

He said she left her partner and two children aged 18 months and six months at Spring Gulley, Bendigo, to move to WA with another man in April 1969.

They lived in a five-storey block of flats - possibly in Murray Avenue - about 15 minutes walk from Victoria Street station.

She was working in a milk bar or delicatessen close to the flat.

Her partner in WA worked for Renaware pots and pans for a few months until he left and went north.

Det. Murphy said: "If we can find where she worked, or somebody who knew her, we can try to fill in the gap of 34 years."

He said her sister and her children, now in their 30s, had been worried for years about what happened to her.

They described her as a quiet, shy woman, unlikely to go to hotels or nightclubs.

Det. Murphy is on 03 5440 2540

He said the missing woman was 154cm tall with long, curly blonde hair and medium build.
