Gareth Briggs, of Daglish, is one of four
winners of Australia's most lucrative engineering
scholarships.
The scholarship, awarded by GRD Minproc,
provides Gareth (22), from the University of WA,
$10,000 and a guaranteed job upon graduation.
The scholarship program was created in
partnership with UWA and Curtin University of
Technology.
Dario Amara, GRD Minproc chief executive,
presented the scholarship this week.
He said the company believed there was a need to
support young engineers entering the industry.
Up to four scholarships, each worth $10,000,
would be awarded annually to undergraduates who
completed their second year of study.
"The program will go towards keeping this
intellectual horsepower in WA," he said.
The company will target second-year students of
civil, mechanical, mining systems, mineral
processing or chemical engineering, or working
towards a double degree combined with commerce,
economics or science.
