Julia Lawrinson; who thinks everyone
can write, they just need help to get
started.

Rebel turned writer Julia Lawrinson will be
holding a Book Week workshop in Nedlands for young
writers.
A cropped, yellow-dyed haircut put an end to
Julia's high school career.
But since then she has gone on to become a
writer of renown.
Winner of the WA Premier's Awards, young adults
section, Julia collected the inaugural prize
sponsored by Perth Independent Newspapers which
includes the POST.
Her novel, Obsession, tells of the tribulations
of teenage life.
"I had a desperate adolescence," said Julia, "I
suppose I can identify with them."
Julia said when she was in Year 10 a friend who
was an apprentice hairdresser cut and dyed her
hair.
"We had a very strict dress code at school and
it did not go down well with the deputy head.
"I did Year 11 by correspondence," said Julia
(32) who lecturers at Edith Cowan University at
Claremont.
Her workshop will be after school on August 22,
at Nedlands Library.
She said she just wanted to get people
writing.
"I think everyone knows how to write, a lot of
people just feel inhibited about it.
"Getting going is the difficult bit."
Dianne Wolfer, author of Borderline and other
books for primary school-aged children, will also
visit the library during Book Week to talk about
her craft.
If you plan to go along, ring the library first
on 9386 6230 to book a place.
